Atlanta Buckhead Midtown -
DONATE MASKS TO URGENT HEALTH CARE OFFICES
Right Here in Georgia - High Death Rates from COVID - 19
Laura Beaty, M.D., Physician and Wellness Specialist at Beaty Facial Plastic Surgery in Atlanta, is working on the front lines both in testing people for COVID-19 and giving care to people who have contracted COVID-19.
Dr. Beaty takes time each evening to go to LinkedIn to share the latest info on the fight for protection for the health professionals so they may keep on taking care of others.
She explained that there weren't enough masks for the physicians where she is working and some people are trying to make masks for them. At Georgia Tech now, the production of face shields for medical professionals is in full swing on a 3-D printer. Read the article to understand the major contribution they are making now.
Dr. Beaty cautions about the COVID-19 situation:
Map showing "clusters" of infection.
"Please avoid gathering in groups. While this can present as only a bad cold for some, it kills others.
If you are sick, switch from social distancing to self quarantine. Call your doctor to find testing site.
"It is important to prevent clusters while we attempt to get more resources, such as protective equipment for healthcare workers and widespread testing.
"Many doctors, nurses and medical assistants in the metro Atlanta area and around the world are suffering from Covid-19 infections.
"When they are sick, they cannot help you. We must do all that we can to preserve that precious resource too - our medical teams."
We need to invest in the health of the care providers ASAP. If the health care providers cannot keep themselves healthy, we will all be in trouble. A short while ago, no one would think a physician, here in the US, would be saying as Dr. Beaty did:
"I thought I would post a photo of my “disposable” N95 mask that will get me through my weekend of urgent care shifts. I clean the outside of the mask with alcohol swabs after wearing the mask to test someone for Covid-19."
"While testing is becoming more available, it is not yet widespread. Companies are sending sick staff to urgent cares to be cleared to return to work. Unfortunately, we can only tell the difference between hashtag#Covid19 and other respiratory infections by testing. A person can self-quarantine for mild illnesses for 14 days or get the test.
"Since tests are not yet widely available, some hospital systems and clinics will not test patients on the mild end of the symptom spectrum. Tests involve a swab deep into the nasal cavity and sometimes an additional swab of the throat.
"Right now, tests are approximately $100 self-pay or you can bill your insurance. Results are not immediately available. Turn around time is 2-5 days. You must self-quarantine until you learn your test is negative. Drive through testing may soon become available in the metro Atlanta area. Call your facility to make sure they are testing before you go in."
Think about donating safety equipment to front-line medical practitioners so they may continue helping others as they stay healthy themselves.
