Seeing What Has Value - 1
DST - fondly known as Daylight Saving Time (no "s" please!) -
gave me an extra hour this this week. I am grateful for that extra time since it allowed me to finish a negotiation and spend the extra time learning!
Any time I can find some extra minutes, I am grateful. This time I used the minutes to watch some animated videos from The School of Life on YouTube. There are over 700 of these videos - ranging from two minutes to seven or eight. Lots of wisdom packed into each one.
For example, how many times have we each been in a business setting and felt a strong reaction to something another person said in the discussion? I venture the answer is "many" times. Are we able to follow the reaction to its genesis and control our response in a way that benefits us? Or have we openly reacted and repented later on?
I used some of my extra time to watch "How to Process Your Emotions" - a three minute School of Life video that 1,062,000+ others have already seen.
So I still had at least 55 minutes left - right? On to more from The School of Life offerings. This time I went to watch several in a row, starting with "What Your Home Says About You" and continuing along to "How To Know Yourself" and then to "How to Be Confident" - already seen by 2,200,000+ people - and finishing with the video about "Self-Esteem" .
Of course, since I had one hour extra, I wound up watching two hours because I love the messages that The School of Life shares. Some are full length talks by philosopher Alain de Botton such as "Work and Emotional Intelligence" (about 25 minutes) and "Reintroducing Wisdom in Everyday Life" (about 45 minutes) and "The Pleasures and Sorrows of Work" (just over one hour) to name a few.
