NARealtor Members re: Fines

Received this email today as the Broker of our company ---

Seems the crooks always come up with new ways to scam people. Of course, in this case, wouldn't the person paying think that they HAD done something wrong??? Hmmm ...

RE: Text Message Scam

Late yesterday I was made aware of a new scam being sent via text message to members. The sender claims to be the incoming NAR CEO, Bob Goldberg.

The text message claims that the member has violated the Code of Ethics and is followed by another text with a link to Paypal directing them to pay a fine ($400-$1000).

NAR has been made aware of this issue and is investigating.
Please share this [information with others you know].

[...] if you [...] have received the scam text, please forward the information to NAR General Counsel, Katie Johnson. Her contact information is below.

Hi Lynn B. Friedman, this is just awful. They weren't really smart with the scam though, who would send money based on a text message.

Lynn good heads up to your fellow Georgia Realtors.  I am sure some will end up falling for this, because they did not pick up the phone and call your local GAR office.

Lynn it never ends, does it. I don't know who would actually think a message like that was NOT a scam but it does happen.

I hope everyone understands this is not the purview of NAR to make people aware of ethics violations. FYI, Bob is a great guy.
