Lynn B. Friedman - Atlanta Homes ODAT Realty: 2017 4th of July Gratitude - for Living in the USA - for ActiveRain

2017 4th of July Gratitude - for Living in the USA - for ActiveRain

2017 4th of July Gratitude -
for Living in the USA - for ActiveRain

Gratitude - the word means "The quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness." according to the Oxford English Dictionary. The OED has been a reference point for the meaning of words since 1857. And, when established, the OED structure allowed for the inevitable changes that language incurs. In addition, the OED invited others to participate and share knowledge as time and words progressed.

Let's start with gratitude and proceed to inevitable changes and then go on to the invitation.

I am grateful to live in the United States of America
where I have so much freedom to explore the path I choose for my life.

I am grateful for my family - my dear husband and our five "children" who are really five young adults - each pursuing what he or she wants for their individual futures. Three were nurtured in my body and two joined our family as teen-age sisters of 12 and 15. Another freedom - my chance to express gratitude by bringing other young people into our family in 2004.

Although we face the normal life issues, health and work and spiritual fulfillment, we are able to unite and support one another's searching.

I am grateful for ActiveRain. In this community, I have "met" people whom I hold in high esteem. I have "accompanied" them through successes and tribulations. I have learned from their amazing examples. No, we may not have met in person but we have shared community and the values within.

I am grateful for Bob Sewart and the other Founders of ActiveRain who formulated a set of Principles - the Weltenschauung - and Comunity Guidelines to shape the CULTURE of ActiveRain.

Bob and the others successfully constructed a platform for individuals to enhance their business efforts and yet another amazing benefit resulted: a large number of real estate professionals, spanning every dimension of our work, began to develop personal friendships and work relationships all across the USA and Canada. (Over 290,000 in June 2017.)

And, without doubt, grateful to Ben Kinney for rescuing ActiveRain from AR's  wanderings through the acquisitions desert and for bringing Bob Stewart back into the community.

Inevitable changes
- just as the OED allowed for language updates, in our lives and in our businesses, flexibility to adjust to new realities is essential. During the late aughts, I realized that I had to gain Internet and technical knowledge to continue working in real estate.

I remember one conversation when I explained I was texting a Client.
The other agent retorted that if the Client wanted to contact the agent -
the Client could use the phone. Hmm - IMHO not the right path to take ...

After joining ActiveRain in 2010, I began to swim in the technology pool. I'd heard of AR before 2010 but not taken the plunge into membership. That joining turned out to be the turning point for my career.

I took every class (oh, webinar!) AR offered and spent a full six months studying, reading and trying to understan the value of Blogging. During my first three or four months, reading and commenting constituted my AR participation involvement.

Early in 2011, I received notice that I had a "Follower" on AR. I hadn't even written my first post yet! He liked my comments ... With gentle urging from Gary Coles (International Referrals), I finally wrote my first post. Oddly enough, the subject is pertinent this year as well.

In Chicago, one day in 2011, I called Lyn Sims and drove out Northwest to meet her in her town, Schaumburg, IL, the focus of her Blogging. Meeting her and my first "in-person" MeetUp were a wonderful experience. We continued to meet over the next five years whenever I was in Chicago.

I cannot begin to name all the amazing people I have come to know via ActiveRain. The list would include over a hundred names, maybe even two hundred, and still be incomplete.

To demonstrate the gratitude I feel towards ActiveRain for the many blessings I have enjoyed from the community, I volunteer each year to share learning for continued success with established members and new members by sponsoring an AR Challenge.

Consider this YOUR PERSONAL INVITATION to join

the 2018 Blog Jumpstart Challenge.

Each of the posts requested involve skills to further your Blogging efforts. Some are based on learning new technical skills. Some serve to reconfirm the values of the ActiveRain Community - check out AR's Weltenschauung (Principles) and Comunity Guidelines. Look for full details in late December 2017. Jumpstart fun begins January 7th and ends January 31st, 2018.

Participate and achieve your personal best!
Compete only with yourself!  Win every step of the way!

A long post - from gratitude to inevitable changes and on to YOUR invitation. Thanks for reading and see you in the 'Rain!

All the best - Lynn

Lynn B. Friedman - How how I wish I could meet you and Lyn Sims in Schaumburg as I could (but won't) probably drive there from here in TX with my eyes closed. I was there at Woodfield Mall when it opened in 1971. Yes! AR continues to bring people together. It appears as if there are more common threads as each member joins and membership continues to communicate with each other. Long live friendship in and outside of ActiveRain!
