Leonard Cohen Tribute - Hallelujah - Extraordinary Poet and Performer

Leonard Cohen Tribute
- Hallelujah -
Extraordinary Poet and Performer

Leonard Cohen, the Canadian talent who entertained the world for over 50 years, passed away on November 7, 2016. His influence will live on and inspire people for many decades to come.

Cohen considered himself a musician, a singer, a songwriter, a poet, a novelist and a painter.  For the rest of us - he was an inspiration.  Leonard Cohen's personality shines through this interview about his song "Hallelujah" during an interview in 2010. He reflects on the song, introduced in the 1980's, which has had a "career" of its own.

The book entitled The Holy or The Broken: Leonard Cohen, Jeff Buckley and the Unlikely Ascent of 'Hallelujah' by Alan Light explores the magic of the song and its continued influence.

Probably best to listen rather than talk about music - right? Below are several versions of his song 'Hallelujah'. Many different ways to share one message. Many other versions are available, including the one by Bob Dylan.

In chronological order of these few - links go to bios of singers and musicians:

Jeff Buckley from 1995 --- Leonard Cohen from 2009 ---  K.D.Lang from 2010

and on to 2016 -  Brooklyn Duo --- Pentatonixs --- Choir! Choir! Choir!

Jeff Buckley

Leonard Cohen

K. D. Lang

Brooklyn Duo

Choir! Choir! Choir!

Pentatonixs

And one more - not 'Hallellujah' - but just because it is so beautiful. Played by a member of Pentatonixs - Kevin Olusola.  Amazing musical talent ...

Lynn B. Friedman I think so many of us failked to acknowledge the genius of Leonard Cohen. Perhaps due to the fact that he kind of 'flew under the radar' of popular music for so many years. He should have received the Pulitzer Prize, not Dylan.

Thanks for stopping by. I thought it would be fun to have several versions of one song together. I hope you listened to the interview he gave where he mentions Dylan's relationship to this song there ...
All the best - Lynn

Have listened to him for years remembering Suzzane when it first came out. After the election results I played "The Future" three times then went back to bed.
