Atlanta Buckhead - Northside Drive
Peachtree Creek Bridge Replacement
Admiration for the planning and skill with which the Georgia Department of Transportation has managed the construction along Northside Drive may be seriously challenged when the Northside Drive Bridge Replacement over Peachtree Creek project begins. That will be a serious impediment to driving along Northside Drive.
The Georgia Department of Transportation work proceeded with the LEAST possible disruption to the neighbors. If you live anywhere along the Atlanta Buckhead Northside Drive Corridor, you have witnessed FIRST HAND the amazing job that the Georgia Department of Transportation has done over the past few years to keep traffic moving during the MAJOR construction.
In fact, using the word "amazing" isn't even adequate. Add in "astonishing", "impressive" and perhaps even "astounding" and
you get a little closer.
Even those commuters, the people who travel through the area daily, rarely suffered long delays. Sure, the sign-holder might have the STOP pointed at one's direction for a minute or two but then it switches to allow the lane to pass through.
What is next? The next big Georgia Department of Transportation project is the Northside Drive Bridge Replacement over Peachtree Creek. The bridge over Peachtree Creek failed the Georgia DOT studies to determine adequacy and integrity of bridges.
While everyone can agree that a bridge built in 1926 is a candidate for replacement, how that replacement will be accomplished causes many residents and commuters alike concern.
On Tuesday, March 1, 2016, a Public Information Open House from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm will be held at the Northside UMC Fellowship Hall at 2799 Northside Drive, Atlanta 30327. The map "pin" indicates the location of the Northside UMC hosting the Public Information Open House.
You may see the location of the proposed Northside Drive Bridge Replacement over Peachtree Creek when you look at the map to the left where the Creek passes under Northside Drive.
No Formal Presentation is scheduled for March 1st. Attendees may review the displays and "stop at any point to speak one-on-one with project staff." All participants are invited to submit comments at the Open House to discuss the Northside Drive Bridge Replacement over Peachtree Creek.
Needless to say, many different points of view are on the table for the details of the proposed project. Some are available to view online. The Atlanta Memorial Park Neighborhood Organization sponsored one plan.
One set of ideas may be studied in great detail within the Memorial Park Conservancy Master Plans.
Other approaches will be considered as well. Attend the Tuesday, March 1, 2016, a Public Information Open House from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm and add your opinions to the mix.
