BIG CHANGES -
MLS Membership Requirements Change July 1, 2018
MLS OF CHOICE
"As you may be aware, the National Association of Realtors (NAR) is instituting a significant policy change, known as the "MLS of Choice" directive, which is due to take effect on July 1, 2018. As we understand it, the general purpose of this directive is to relieve real estate professionals of the financial burden associated with belonging to an MLS that he or she is not using. So, while a broker may belong to multiple MLSs, his or her agents will only be required to select one, but more if they so choose.
"This NAR directive only applies to MLSs that are owned by the local association of REALTORS®. [In Atlanta], FMLS is privately held - i.e., not owned by an association. [FMLS] is not under the control of NAR.
"More importantly, our business model is not dues-based, nor does it require an individual agent to join our service. Instead, it is the broker member's responsibility to see that listings are input to FMLS's database and pay FMLS fees pursuant to our rules. It's IMPORTANT to note, however, that the NAR directive does allow for FMLS to be an agent's "MLS of Choice."
