"Gleaning from others is one of your most valuable assets in business. Learn from the best and pass it on."
Mike Cooper uses his writing skills - as usual - to share his insightful thinking. One always finds a gem in his blogs! The quote of his above exemplifies his wisdom.
And --- isn't that what ActiveRain offers to all of us everyday?
Have a happy day -

In every industry, there are the superstars and there are the rest of the folks. It doesn't matter if it's real estate or raising chickens. There will always be some who are further ahead in skills and techniques than others.
I have to laugh when I hear people like the OWS folks talk about creating a level
playing field. You know, everyone totally equal. It'll never happen. We are all born equal. Our access to the breathe of life is the same for all, but over the course of a lifetime, leaders emerge, talents increase and a natural separation takes place. Just ask the gazelle and the lion. They both live and breathe, but one dominates. It's just life.
In my contracting business, I have electricians who work for me. I have over forty years experience in this field. I've done just about everything you can imagine, and I hold a Master's license not only because of testing, but because I proven I'm qualified to hold it. It would be hard to challenge me in this field. Regardless, I still read books and technical manuals, and I still take classes to improve my level of knowledge. The electrical field the basics remain the same, but it's always evolving in other ways, and I need to evolve with it nearly a half century later.
When a young electrician joins my team I try to make sure he gets everything he needs to excel. I will send him to school, I will teach him techniques that he can only learn in the field and I will make sure he is the best he can be as a technician. But, if he continuously challenges me and my authority, he will be unemployed. The greatest gift I can give him is over four decades of expertise and experience. If he thinks he can surpass that in a few months or even years, he's mistaken. Some things can only be learned in the trenches.
That brings me to real estate. There are many in this field who are the true superstars of real estate. They have the opportunity to create the next generation of superstars, and I hope they do. But, for the up and comers, let me offer a piece of advice. When working with one of these experienced professionals, remember, you can be right in the wrong way. You can ask the right questions with the wrong attitude, and you can challenge your broker, team leader or senior agents with devastating results. Everyone pays his/her dues.
When you come into relationship with one of these superstars who is willing to
pass on their knowledge and experience, which can lead to your own greatness, graciously accept it and learn. Use that time to incorporate everything you can and build a mental library of tools and techniques that you will one day pass on to another young upstart who is looking for guidance. Gleaning from others is one of your most valuable assets in business. Learn from the best and pass it on. You will be better at your job, and you will retire in the satisfaction that your skills continue to produce results in the lives of others.
